A Narayanganj court on Sunday sentenced a man to death and nine others to life imprisonment for killing a college student in 2011.

Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Sabina Yasmin handed down the punishment.

The court also fined the death row awardee Tk 50,000 while life awardees Tk 30,000 each.

The death row convict is Jahidul Islam, 38, while life awardees are Alamgir, Basit, Asad, Shah Jamal, Jewel, Momtaj Begum, Kolpona Begum, Kamal and Nazrul Islam.

The court’s Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Jasmeen Ahmed Roy said the convicts attacked house of Mofizul, son of Shahidullah, with a sharp knife and sticks on the night of November 9, 2011 over a land dispute in the Musharchar area of Sonargaon. At that time, the attackers stabbed Mofizul to death and vandalized his house, leaving several others were injured.

Later, the victim’s father Shahidullah filed a case with the Sonargaon Police Station naming 10 people.
